On September 22, 1979 the 31st Grand Basileus Burnel E. Coulon and the Supreme Council approved a charter for the chapter and assigned the name as Iota Alpha Alpha chapter in Hurlock, MD. Thus, the Iota Alpha Alpha Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was officially born. The charter members are: Robert Dowery, Edward Ellis, Donald Sydnor, Donnie Webb, James Lunnerman, and Dr. Edwin Fassett.

The chapter members then decided to have its first initiates the following year and saw growth until the chapter went dormant in 1994.

With wisdom & guidance from the late Bro. Charles Elliot, the 34th District Representative Bro. Milton Harrison confirmed and reactivated the charter of the Iota Alpha Alpha Chapter on Tuesday April 26, 2016. The executive board members at the time of reactivation were as follows: Bro. Waverly A. DeBraux III, Bro. Terence R. Gavin, Bro. Dwayne Glass, Bro. Kirk Brooks, and Bro. Eugene Jones.

In the Fall of 2017, Iota Alpha Alpha initiated seven new brothers. With more brothers initiated in 2018, 2021, and 2023, Iota Alpha Alpha continues to grow and serve the community to this day.
